Easy and Affordable Festive Decor Ideas for the Holidays
The holidays are a time for warmth, joy, and a touch of holiday charm throughout your home. Whether you’re a seasoned decorator or someone who prefers a more laid-back approach, these affordable and easy festive decor ideas are sure to bring some holiday cheer without breaking the bank. Inspired by some of my own holiday DIY's, here’s how you can transform your space this season:
1. Art with a Festive Twist
Who says your everyday art can’t join in the festivities? A few simple seasonal touches can make all the difference. Here’s what I did:
Ribbon Accents: I added a festive pop to some of the artwork in my home by tying red bows around the frames using ribbon I already had on hand. It’s a quick and easy way to bring in a little holiday cheer with minimal effort.
Temporary Art Swaps: I purchased printable art from Etsy and had it locally printed. Using clear mounting squares, I temporarily covered a large canvas photo with the new holiday-themed print. It was a hassle-free way to introduce seasonal flair without making permanent changes.
Tip: Look for printables that align with your holiday theme, whether that’s classic reds and greens or something more unexpected like burgundies and oranges.
2. Thrift Store Transformations
Thrifting is the perfect way to create one-of-a-kind holiday décor without breaking the bank. Here’s how I turned some secondhand finds into festive gems:
Gold Bells:
I came across a set of worn-out silver plastic bells that definitely needed some love. A quick coat of gold spray paint (which I already had on hand) gave them a fresh, elegant look. After they dried, I hung them in the middle of our garland under one of our headers. The result? A simple, yet instant touch of holiday elegance.Wreath Upcycle:
While thrifting, I found a few wreaths that were covered in garish plastic decorations. Rather than leaving them as they were, I stripped them down and added the same red ribbon I’d used for the bows. The wreaths were then transformed into lovely hangers to dangle from our front windows, bringing a little extra charm to the exterior of the house.
Tip: Keep an eye out for shapes and structures that you can easily revamp. A little paint or ribbon can go a long way!
