8 Beautiful and Functional Tips for a House with Kids
Kids are stuff magnets. Whether its new toys from grandma, a prize from the dentist office, or a drawing from school, kids accumulate an endless amount of items. And we all know, their stuff gets scattered all over the house. Here are 8 functional décor tips to help keep your home with kids beautiful and organized.
1.) Purge
You might not want to hear this... It’s time to declutter.
Reduce that pile of toys and trinkets: donate what you can and recycle/throw away what is broken. Less clutter creates a tidy and relaxing environment in your home. Plus you don’t have to pick up what you don’t own!
Tip: Consider storing away infrequently used toys and rotate them every couple of months.
2.) Become a Storage Ninja:
Storage is your friend. Cabinets, bins, and baskets can help you tuck things away and “out of site”. Don’t leave toys strewn all over the floor or piling up in a corner. Throw them into a beautiful basket and showcase it in your living room.

3.) Frame Artwork:
Instead of pinning your kiddos artwork all over the fridge, frame their masterpieces. Create a gallery wall of their work and rotate drawings out regularly for fresh, new pieces (stick figures and all!).
4.) Chalkboard paint:
Paint a wall in chalkboard paint where your children can let their imaginations run wild, drawing and exploring. Now days chalkboard paint comes in any color, which means… once the kids are done, wipe it down with a wet cloth and it instantly becomes a regular wall!
5.) Buy Unbreakable Décor:
Find décor that not only looks nice but is resilient. Think resin, plastic, lightweight woods… Something that won’t break if your kid drops it on the floor (on accident or on purpose 😉). Save your breakable items for out of reach areas like floating shelves or at the backs of countertops.

6.) Easy-to-Clean Blankets:
Purchase washing machine friendly throw blankets. Toss them over sofas and bedding to protect the furniture from your kiddos (and pets!)
Cover up with one of these:
7.) Pillows Cases:
Decorative pillows are great for layering and visual interest. They also get spilled on, drooled over, and used as islands to escape the lava floor. Buy pillow cases separate from pillow inserts. The easily removable covers can be thrown into the wash as needed.
8.) Make a “Yes” Place:
Create a space where your children can imagine and explore free from the “no, don’t play with that!”. As you can imagine, play rooms behind closed doors are ideal but spaces not often used by visitors like a basement corner can work just as well.
