If you’re thinking about doing a renovation or refresh in your home, its good to know where to invest and where to save. It's a balancing act. Make your choices count, not just for your lifestyle, but because they’ll likely affect the resale value of your home as well. No pressure, right? Don't worry, here's an outline to help you make decisions.

Splurges:

▶︎▶︎ Focus in rooms you use the most and features that will make your life easier.

▶︎▶︎ Invest in permanent, fundamental items that are hard to replace. Think bathtubs, flooring, kitchen cabinetry, etc.

▶︎▶︎ Spend more on your room's focal point, where it will have the most impact.

▶︎▶︎ Invest in ‘green’ items that will pay back with lower energy costs. Good for you and good for the environment.

Saves:

▶︎▶︎ Don't over-customize. You’ll want your home to be attractive an array of people for resale.

▶︎▶︎ Skimp on paint. It can be both quality and economical.

▶︎▶︎ Save on accessories that can easily be swapped out over time.

▶︎▶︎ Tile doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Affordable options will be just as durable and lookalikes are available for less.

Bottom line? Set priorities and budget for them.
